Why it matters here
Without a VPN, your provider sees every site you open, and the ad networks embedded in those sites tie your IP to a profile that follows you between them. A VPN moves that visibility to a company whose business is not selling it — which is exactly why the no-logs claim, and whether anyone independent has audited it, matters more here than raw speed.
What to look for
- An independently audited no-logs policy
- Encrypted DNS handled by the app itself
- Leak protection for DNS, IPv6 and WebRTC
- Tracker and malicious-domain blocking
- Stable enough to leave on all day
One thing people get wrong
Turn on the provider's own DNS. If your VPN encrypts traffic but leaves DNS with your ISP, they still get a full list of the sites you visit.
