What these technologies are
A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep and send back on later visits. Local storage does a similar job with data that stays in your browser and is not attached to every request. We use both sparingly, and we use them first-party — set by this site, for this site.
What we store, and why
Strictly necessary. Items needed for the site to work and to stay secure, including anything our hosting and content-delivery layer needs to serve pages to you, and a record of the choice you made on a consent banner, so we do not ask you again on every page.
Interface preferences. A note that you dismissed a popup or a banner, so it is not shown to you again for a period. This is stored in your browser's local storage, contains no identifier for you, and never leaves your device.
Measurement. A first-party record of which pages are opened and which page referred you, so we can count traffic and see which reviews are read. This is aggregate editorial measurement, not advertising profiling, and we do not pass it to advertising networks.
We do not set third-party advertising or retargeting cookies of our own.
Things loaded from other companies
Provider logos in our comparison tables are loaded from a third-party icon service, and the connection-check tool queries a third-party IP-information service from your browser. Those requests reach the companies concerned and are subject to their own policies. If you follow an affiliate link, the destination will typically set its own cookie to attribute the referral; that cookie belongs to them, not to us.
Your choices
Every browser lets you see, block and delete cookies and clear local storage, usually under privacy or site-data settings. Blocking strictly necessary items may stop parts of the site working; blocking the rest will not. Browsing with a tracker-blocking extension or a private window is fine — our pages are static and work normally either way. Where a consent banner applies to you, you can change your answer at any time by clearing this site's storage and reloading.
Changes
If what we store changes, we will update this page. Our privacy policy explains the wider picture of what we collect and why.
